south bend jig rods
« on: Jan 05, 2009, 08:02 PM »
The last couple of years south bend has had some nice low cost jig rods. Why is there no info I can find on the web about these? Does anyone know about the recent happenings or dealing of this company...Sometime I see a nice rod then gone like the wind...some of the stuff is junk...the other thing is no design continuity as if they buy other companies rods and brand them...anyone know?

I normally would not buy SB products because many of them are sub par but last year a Graphite "Black Ice" rod caught my eye. It's now my favorite MH rod. Great for larger jigging raps/spoons. I paired it with a SB Klondike reel which I'm also extremely happy with. Most of my other rods are Cabela's XML rods. I would say the Black ice is comparable to this kind of quality.... A small step below the real nice stuff.....

That being said, stay away from the cheap fiberglass rod/combos unless your looking for an ultralight noodle panfish rod.

I've had one southbend rod/reel setup I won and the rod tip has broken twice just being in my bucket, nothing touching it.

I have a medium action black ice rod.  It is one of my favorites.  I tend to be pretty tough on my gear and it has held up well.

Just bought a South Bend "Everest" combo last week at Bass Pro Shops to use up a gift card. Microlite for panfish, trout, etc... Exactly what I was looking for. Combo cost $39.00. I will let you know how I make out with it this season. Maybe on Snippatuit Bozeiceman ?

I bought some southbend polaris graphite 24 and 30 inch ultralites up in Canada about 7 years ago and they are still my go to rods and you can't find them anymore.  They have the lightest tip but enough backbone for bigger fish.  You can see the lightest hits with these rods.  I ordered a few more one year from a shop near Chicago, forget the name, but I wish I could find them again.

All other south bend stuff I've seen was junk.
