idaho Iceshanty looking for info.

I love ice fishing but I'm coming to Alaska for 3 weeks the last week of July plan to fish for chums at hider then on to prince of wales island first 2 weeks of Aug. to fish creeks and rivers there any info on what I can expect to catch that time of year would be very helpful .I wish I could come in September for silvers but that the only dates i can make it . I like to read your posts sounds like great ice fishing up there.Idahos not to bad but ice this year sucks where i like to fish for macks any way ICESHANTY IS OSSUME THANKS FOR ANY HELP

You should be able to get into the silvers in valdez or seward as well as some streams on the parks highway. If you want numbers I would concentrate on the salt for silvers. When you go south east you should be able to get into the dollies as well. since you are a ice fisherman you may also want to save some eggs and cure them up yourself put them in the freezer and use them next winter. They work great up here even in lakes that have no salmon runs.

well if your gonna be doin the inside passage...Silvers should be really hot on prince of wales durin the entire month of august. cutthroats in the lakes there and the blacktail deer hunting is excellent. there are few roads (cept on POW, hundreds of miles of loggin roads) where you are going. bring a good camera as you are likely to see a good number of brown bears and other wildlife.  Idaho is nice, spent alot of time in Benewah County myself. mite go back next year to visit my father if i have time. well all i can tell you is you really need to research your options and log on to Alaska Outdoor Forums, look up alaska fishing forum, and ask your questions there. youll learn everything you need to know.
