Marcum LX3TC Charging Help

Hi all
Having trouble charging my LX3tc.  So I have the power connectors that perfectly fit with the battery and the device.  And then I have that digital lcd that you connect the AC power to and then it also has to 2 cable leads.  HOWEVER, the two don't have any plastic coverings like the leads from the machine.  Is this a defect and my problem?
I can only get the LCD to light up when I touch the two leads from the digital LCD to the battery connectors.  However, there is no way for me to keep the the leads connected.

On my new LX-5 the two plastic coated connectors from the power head and the bare leads off the DCS 100 are permanently connected, however I recall on my LX-3 that I have to connect the DCS 100 leads to the power head leads and then place them on the battery-piggy backed style, should be enough room to do this.
