New permament shack on wheels....
« on: Jun 27, 2008, 05:06 PM »
One of my larger projects this off season is to make a new shack. I have been given an old pop up camper that is 6.5' by 10' long. I was going to use the sides and top and board it around, however, it was to far gone to do anything with.  I will be starting with pretty much a bare trailer and was looking for any helpful tips or suggestions in starting this shack.  Things that people might have ran into in building a larger one on a trailer.

I am looking for it to be lighter and i would like to overnight it (some bunks) with the family (Wife and 2 kids).

Thanks,   Sven

Hey Sven, Im going to build a shack on wheels too, last year I picked up a free pop up that i started to gut to the sides, and you know, now i have just a steel frame. My frame is 6.5 ft wide by 7 ft long, so since i have a welding machine im going to make the frame a little bit longer , only 8 ft but i need the extra room since we are a family of 5. I am going to frame it out with steel studs that i already have and a slightly pitched rubber roof ( already have the rubber ).Good luck with your project, when i get going on mine ill post some pics of the progress.

There was post of a pop-up that the plywood walls folded down so it still poped up..... when I get time I will find it and link it.

I will and thank you. I have just getting my lumber together. They have cut some of our overtime at work, so extra money is not as easy to get my hands on.

I did gut the camper already and made a trailer out of it.  It turned out so nice and I did not have a trailer for my 4 wheelers and scrapped the permanent shack wheels.  Now I am building one on slides that I can load on the trailer. I will get some pictures posted here shortly.

My neighbor just started a gut job on a pop up. An old 1978 ramada hardside. Been helping him also when I have time. I will try to get some pic's of his too.

Once I get the pic's, then I will try to figure out how to get them on....... ::)

I always love picks of shanties. And build up pics are even better.

Here's a trailer I built a couple weeks ago to haul the quad and shack, 6x12.

I like how it all folds up in a nice tight package.
