Kenai river report?

Was just wondering if anyone had a report on the Kenai conditions............ .been hearing rumors of alot of huge rainbows caught lately.

Frydaddy,
if your asking about the river, it has been frozeover for the most part as I had my snowmachine on it a few weeks ago. I haven't seen or heard of anyone ice fishing the river (or even know if they do). The weather has warmed up again and I'm not sure I'd do much traveling on the river right now.

No one knew anything about ice fishing on the river, though it is done on rivers everywhere else in Alaska. We used to fish for smelt through  the ice out in Bristol Bay.

My guess is that it used to be done near the mouth, but that people now associate the river so much with trophy salmon and trout that to ice fish it sounds absurd to them.

Last summer, as I drifted down the Kenai, I asked a friend of mine if he knew about ice fishing in front of places like Honeymoon Cove, and he just looked at me like I was crazy. Maybe we are crazy!

If you ever want to try this MP, on the Kenai or Kasilof, give me a call. We'll tie off to the shore with a long rope, and drill and fish away!

Most of the time people just fish the outlet of Kenai on either Kenai lake or Skilak....and I was just at the river sunday, there are already driftboats and people fishing in waders.

thanks for the info. fellas.  I was thinking about taking a drift down the river, myself.  I know that there's a couple of schools of spring silvers swimming around right now, and there should be a few rainbows in the proximity.  Was wondering what condition the outlet of skilak is in right now.?  There should also be some silvers spawning in there, as well.  I'm going to go check it out this weekend if I don't get roped into going elsewhere, and I'll post a report for you guys.
