AngolaJones and I once again decided to hit the perch hole again. After only catching a few in Thursday nights area we decided to make a deep snow killing walk to an area we hit them a couple years ago and were pleasantly surprised to find them stacked there. All fish were caught mid-afternoon and we left by 4. A lot of these fish were taken on the smallest swedish pimples tipped with spikes with a few taken on a few other baits that we tried to see if they would work better. When it all came down to it we found that if the school was there you were catching them no matter what you had down there. We drilled at least 150 hole trying to stay up with these critters and ended up with 49 keepers and many other smaller fish. We also caught about 30 bass from 11-17 inches, they were actually mixed right in with the perch and many times we would catch 2 bass then 2 perch then 2 more bass out of the same school. It kept the day fun. All these fish were caught in 9-16 fow and boy did they keep us on the move.

150 holes!!! :o

Hope you have a power auger or a 4" lazer with sharp blades.  The lakes I have been fishing have 10-12 inches of ice on them.  After about 30 holes with a 6" lazer I am dead!!!

Nice perch!!!

Actually, I have a 5" lazer with a 19.2 craftsman cordless drill hooked up to it. I took 6 batteries with me on Saturday. My fishin buddy has one as well and he took 5 batteries. We still had a couple batteries to go at days end  ;D.

A buddy of mine uses a 6 on the same drill as I have and it works fine. You will cut several less holes with the 6. It also depends on how many holes you like to cut. I have to carry a lot of batteries in order to last a day. I am considering a 6 inch gas auger for next year. You also need to be careful and keep the batteries as dry as possible. I definitely prefer this over hand drilling.

sounds like you might wanna invest an "IceGator" alot heavier and a bit harder to trudge those long distances with but still no heavier than a gas auger, the benfit of the amount of holes you can drill and the quickness of it will amaze ya. I have one and have even seen them in michigan where the ice on sag bay right now is about 14 inchs more in some places, and there sell the crap out of them no gass muss no fuss. mine worked like a champ up there, drilled prolly 50 holes on sat, didnt charge to see how many i could get ,then drilled 25 or so on sun still had battery left. LOVE IT!!!! just a thought. ive had the drill adapter and the batteries dont seem to last long and on fridged days seem to last even less. Just a thought from a more than satisfied IceGator owner. No doubt they are a fine tool. I just couldnt bring myself to spend this much money when you can buy a gas auger much cheaper at end of season sales. imo.

Yea, I have a couple friends who have the 'gators and they are impressive. I even used one last week that was a friends who came perchin' with us. My only htinking is that I drill a tonnnnnnnn of holes every year and I believe long term that I will get more years out of a gas auger than a gator from a maintenance standpoint. I have buddies who have had there jiffy's for a longgg time. Please don't get me wrong those gators are fast and impressive and if I had themoney I would own both a gas and a 'gator.
