Do you think the rain will end the season ?
« on: Mar 04, 2008, 10:30 AM »
Do you think this rain will end the season for most of us here in PA. Was on 11" on Walker lake on Mon. but the ice did not seem as hard when drilling.

It ain't over till the fat lady sings, and she ain't singing in the Northeast. The rain will probably screw things up for a couple of days, and some lakes that are fed by medium to large streams might get messed up. Toby comes to mind. Others will survive with the temps dropping by Weds. eve. and getting colder into the weekend. Of course the edges can be an issue, to which I say arrrrrgh! Walk the plank matey!

I believe we will be OK on lakes that have at least 8" now just bring your SPUD to check it out and as Van Cleaver says be ready to walk the plank. Icewagon we will have a "double plank" bridge built for you and your crew by FRI to the right of the rail at Walker  ;D FRED

Should be cold enough at the end of the week to keep the season going in most places. I had 10" of good ice last weekend though, if you only had 5 or 6 inches, you may be in trouble. Good luck and stay safe everyone.

depends on the weather coming up. If we get more rain we may have some problems. it will be hard to get on/off of the ice. I believe its almost time to bust out the boards!!!!

34 degrees here now & dropping. Raining now, but expecting freezing rain shortly. Go figure, accu weather says it should be 45 now, can never count on them. Susquehanna river is supposed to flood in low lying areas and possibly other areas, should be interesting to see what the week end will look like, the creeks are gonna take a beatin.

Its 36 here yet The Weather channel originally said it was supposed to be in the mid 40s...hopefully some of the heavy precip tonight will fall as freezing rain instead of rain so I can make it out tomorrow without plankin it.

The riva's gunna be done for a while which is normal for this time of year and its been fsihing slow as of late anyways...maybe it'll heat up when it drops...its long overdue

I walked right out yesterday onto 5" of black ice (no plank needed) on a lake that only had 7-8" of ice before all the rain...it ain't done yet but for guys who have no experience fishing late in the season and don't know what dangers to look for/ watch out for its probably not a good idea to go out unless you go with someone

Fished Slocum for the 2nd day in a row without a plank but with this rain coming I think she's done...ice is only 5" over the deep water and the rain/ warm weather will most likely honeycomb the ice...planking it out onto those conditions even to drill a hole to check is just asking for trouble...looks like I'll have to drive to the Pac to get my last of the season fix next week

Guess I could go to any of your fantastic places  ;) I go out and if I get 1-2 flags in an entire day then I had a great day as I'm using baits bigger than the fish you are trying to catch

The Pac holds lots of secrets and just since you haven't figured out any doesn't mean it sucks...I've had more flagless days there than I can remember but when I get flags they are always quality fish in the 10-20+lb range

ha, i guess i'm 1 of the lucky ones, had my contact check out my favorite lake and it still had 8 solid inches of ice and it was solid along the shore. Still need to drill that first hole about 2 feet off the bank to be sure on sunday though for my own piece of mind. Be careful guys.

Got to give it one last try, Any lake in the NE that dosen't have a stream feeding it should be ok this week but I don't think it can hold much longer than a week.
