Smelt Fishin' Info Needed
« on: Feb 20, 2008, 11:25 PM »

I have been thinking of trying some night smelt fishin'. The question is, should I bother bringing my shanty or just fish them old style, sittin' on a bucket with a lantern close by? If I use a shanty how much light should I allow to penetrate the hole?

I'm old veteran when it comes to most types of Ice Fishin', but I'm a rookie when it comes to smelt fishin' through the ice at night.

Any tips and advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

         Thanks,

I always take the shanty and always have the lantern next to the hole so i can see the little buggers grab the bait!
