How is the condition of the road out to Mormon Hill?

The road was OK yesterday, I have 2wd pickup and I had no problems but I thought man I hope I don't suck back in here. I bet its a lot worst when it warms up. My next truck will be 4wd.
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles.

Nice catch Jeffro, wish I could have got out with you. I talked to my other buddy he said they got 25 nice gills too. He said even more people were there today.

Chapstick-
The road was fine... today. It was 2 degrees in the AM when I arrived and 26 degrees later in the AM when I left. At that time things were still semi-frozen. High_Flags is right, it will certainly be sloppy when the 40's get here. Things did not seems to be dug out or too badly rutted so I would think things will be OK.

It was a real nice day out there this morn, arrived at 7:45 and could barely find a spot to park both lots were pretty full already at Mormon Hill, ended up in the lower lot to the right of the road. Was 12 degrees at arrival, was 37 when i left at 2:30. Thought the circus came to town seeing all the vehicles parked along the road sides and in the grass everywhere. I didn't do as well as others catching their limit only came home with 6 nice ones, but i also stayed away from the channel area where everybody else seemed to be. Ice was 7 inches thick everywhere i popped holes. The road was getting fairly sloppy on the way out probably from all the traffic and the bright sunshine today didn't help it either.

Guess once word gets out here on the internet and the word spreads seems like everyone wanted to be out there today which is why i called it a circus IMHO.

Talked with several guys while packing up for the trip home and one guy was telling me how his buddy and he were there yesterday morning limiting out in the morning, went home and came back out in the afternoon and limited out again. He did the same this morning and was back out again for the afternnon shift .    >:(
Now this is a fine fishery and I have been going there on and off for about 30 years now, but how much pressure can it take and still survive since it's latest rebirth with this amount of people going there and some taking double limits?  ???

Guess i'll be making a phone call to a buddy who works there tomorrow and inform him of this ( double limits ) and see what can be done about this. >:(

Fished Slough over the weekend.  Action was good for gills.  We managered to bring home 30-40 nice gills.  While the lake is far from its glory days, it is very promising to see its potentials already.  Fish were mostly in heavy cover in shallow water.  We lost a lot of jigs and fish due to cover.  This is a great place to take kids, they won't be disappointed.

I got a report that a 24" bass was taken from there over the weekend. Dnr was out checking license and told my brotherinlaw that a guy caught the bass on a tip up. The guy kept it for one reason or another.  :-[

Is there a size limit on keeper bass there Kick?

He might of had to keep it, if the bass took the hook deep. Tough to say. ???

yes there is a minimum size of 18". A 24" bass is huge and not sure why the guy kept it but he was within his legal rights. Maybe he was gonna have it mounted

I think that if you weed thru the little ones and only keep the bigger fish than, you wouldn't have to keep coming back to have enough for a meal. 25 nice 8 inch gills will feed the biggest family twice, mixed with fries and salad. I think those guys in the office should do a little more LEG WORK.

Back in the day... You'd have to register up at the headquarters, sign in at the headquarters, and fill out the card on your daily catch, and deposit card in box at Mormon Hill, or at the headquarters!!! Maybe they should start doing this again!! C-ya. Crappie Rob.
