7.2 lbs rainbow
« on: Jan 18, 2008, 09:03 AM »
Caught this monster rainbow in a pond where they do stock trout.
but can hardly support a holdover.. only a 30 ft hole
i called the fish and game they just blew me off saying it was probably a salmon
which in my opinion it isn't..
which they stock there also..
and all the old timers there thought it was a rainbow also..
I can't seem to get the pictures posted so if you want a pic send email; i'll send pic
or if someone can post this pic for me that would help too

That is a rainbow and what a nice one. Congrats It looks like its been in there for a long time. It has those dark colors like a native which usually happens when they have been in a lake for a while

thats a bow for sure...nice dark holdover or transplant (which I doubt)....rainbows can hold over in 30 ft....especially if it is spring fed.....I catch holdovers (few and far between)..but... in a pond that has only 20 ft channel ...and does not get fall stocking....but gets cold water from the wachusett dam release water...K

It's most likely a brood stock rainbow.  They stock older breeders that are no longer useful when it comes to hatchery spawning.  Nice fish though, I'm sure it fought good!

That is one hefty rainbow. Congrats. The pond must have good forage.

It could be a brood stock but its been in natural waters for a while to get that color. The ones from the hatchery do not look like that they are much lighter even the older ones
