Bet the 50 mph gusts will affect the bite....

Blufloyd,
Are you planning on fishing Shab this Saturday?  If you are, it would be nice to chat with you.  It seems like you have lots of experience when it comes to ice fishing.

Do you have any information on the ice conditions on Shabanna?  It's a three hour ride for me and my son, is there any info posted on line about this Sat night?

Fished Shab on 2-9-08.  Very windy and cold.  Fished the cribs near the campground and only caught 6 crappies.  Very slow night.  Called it quits early.  Did manage to strike up a conversation with a fellow fisherman.  Very nice individual, shared a lot of information on the lake.  All in all, it was nice to get out.
Winds kept me from heading out to Willow Slough this morning.

KDK,
There was good 7"-8" of solid ice.  Frozen slush layer on top.

Grubjigger,  Thanks for the information.  Might have to head north next weekend if the weather hold through the week.  Only made it out once before our warm spell killed the ice.

Fished Shabona today from 7:30 - 1:00 PM.  Caught around 16 crappies, released all but 8.  Fish were stacked around the cribs but could not get them to bite.  Nice lake.  Crappies that were kept were around 9-10".  Ice was around 16" thick, mostly made up with frozen snow.  Hope the ice lasts a couple of more weekends.

Dekalb County. Just south of US 30 in the town of Shabbona.  It's about 2 hours and 45 minutes from Hobart.  My buddy lives out your way and comes out to fish.  In return, I make trips out to Willow Slough.

Did I meet you at the slough this year? I talked to someone from Illinois up at the headquarters, and they were going back to fish Mormon Hill. That was back in January?

We may have.  We are fishing there on Sunday.  Let me know if you can make it out.  It will be nice to meet up with IS members.  I'll be fishing Shabbona on Saturday with a buddy from Hobart.

Fished Shabbona on Saturday and Sunday.  Had a great time on crappies.
Made camp over the crib.

Jepik,
The single lantern is enough to heat my Scout.  With it on, I can fish in a sweatshirt.  I typically use the lantern and a Mr. Heater in the Yukon to achieve the same effect. If I can fish in comfort, I typically do.  I really like the single lantern set-up. It is very compact and stores nicely in the shanty pocket under the seat.  It also uses less propane. A single bottle will last at least two long outings.  A double mantle lantern will burn through two bottles of propane.
Chin,
