Fish Commission's new licensing system.
« on: Jan 04, 2008, 12:39 PM »
Has anyone been experiencing problems trying to get the 2008 fishing license?  Last week I went to buy mine at K-Mart and was told they were unable to issue any as there were problems getting the swiper to work.  Yesterday I spent over 45 minutes at a hardware store waiting for the clerk to correct errors he was getting on the terminal.  He ended up having to download files after getting help from the Commission's Help desk.  Finally they got it working and printed out my tag...nice of them to keep them the same size...now I have to go out and buy another plastic carrying pouch.  What next? :o

Same problem @ my bait store. Their selling huntinig licence holders for the licence also. Don't know why we can't just have it in our possession like some other states do. Oh I forgot, then the wardens won't be able to see it when they check you out with their binoculars.  ;D ;D

The ones from online are the same size, and you can print out multiple copies incase you lose one, or two, or three...LOL I couldn't imagine wearing a hunting license sized license on my hat or person for that matter.... This commonwealth is a$$backwards

I’ve been buying mine on line for last 3 years, mainly for the convenience of printing enough copies to be able to attach them to every vest, tackle box, ice sled, vehicle, etc. Anything that is remotely related to fishing has my license on/in it (somewhere). Never again will I forget about having it along.

Just got my new licenses; think this is my fourth year (online).  Got the usual six, so one can stay in the glove box, various tackle boxes, fly vest etc. Takes a little time but worth the effort. Now if only I could get out to use it!

I got mine around the first weekend in December, no problems with the machine at the shop I went to.

I have been keeping my license in my wallet. I have been checked by many officers over the years none never said anything. If they want to see it they just have to say so. I always have my wallet with me so I wont forget it.

Take it for what it's worth. It does say "display this side" on outer garment right on the license. I was told by a reliable source his friend almost got fined for not having the correct side displayed!! Either he was involved in other shenanagins or the fish warden was having a bad day. I figure best not give them something to look for or question.   Lou

Problems with the swipe of driver's licence:
If you have a suffix, such as Jr, II, III, or such the computer will not automatically enter the info for your address. Your address info will have to be entered manually. Just a heads up for anyone buying it in person that has delays.

Why not buy online unless you don't use or have a computer??? You can print 100 copies if you want, they are all legal when signed. Can't copy and use a store bought license, must pay for a replacement. Also the year is in BIG letters so the DCNR officer can see it from a long way with is binoculors. Also for what it's worth not displaying your licemse when fishing believe it or not, is a fineable offense..

Indiana Lou makes a good point here regarding the WCO's... most will let you slide for not displaying a license (provided that you at least have it along), but don't give them the chance to snoop around. You might be breaking some other laws/rules without even knowing it, and now the $$$ signs start appearing in their eyes.

For example; you forget to hang your license on your hat, a WCO/ranger comes over and wants to see it, as you fish through your gear for your license the guy notices a few beers in your cooler... a relatively harmless thing BUT you are in a state park and that's another infraction... ch-ching, and so on.

This actually happened to my buddy and I (during open water) a fews years ago at Promised Land. Tack on an unsecured battery cover, and not easily accessible signalling device and here we go! ::)

Yeah much easier to get it online and print lots of copies then you never have to worry about losing it and repaying that stamp fee

no  infact after you hit the print button ol line you can't go back and get more there either.  what you have to do online is tell the printer how many you want then hit the print button.  the printer does everything after that.  did 5 for me. car, jeep,, tackle box ,icefishing sled and display holder.

no slider you are not allowed to make any copies of it. And just a hint guys instead of printing it save it as a pdf file, that way its always on your comp and you can print more out whenever you want

I did the same as Jay.  I saved mine, came back and printed a bunch.  No more tearing the house apart looking for my license.  I don't know why anyone with a computer wouldn't buy online.  It's sweet!  One in the glovebox...good idea.

The machine wouldn't read my card but he typed everything in.  My license does fit in my old holder fortunately.  It took a long time to do and the guy was none too happy.  Imagine the night before trout opener when these places which used to have 3 people doing it manually now have to do one at a time taking 10 minutes a shot.  Glad I ice fish..
I fished, therefore, I was.
