Summerizing the auger
« on: Mar 31, 2007, 08:39 PM »
I recently switched over to Amsoil. Should I still use a stabilizer?

Depends on how many holes you plan on drilling this summer.

I use the amsoil synthetic sabre 100:1 as well, yes put STA-BIL in your mix when you mix it, put like 1/2 ounce in the auger tank and run it for 5-10 minutes.  Also put some stabil in the Mix you have left in your gas can.  even though it is a synthetic mix, the gas nowadays has alcohol in it which destabilizes fuel when it sits for more than  month, and you carburator will turn to gel, and you'll be pissin and moaning come next season.  this is of course you still still have fuel in the auger,  Me I am a cheap a$$ and with fuel costing close to 3 bucks a gallon, the 1.00 of fuel in my tank in the auger is worth saving so I don't dump out.  but the auger is worth more money then the 4-5 bucks for a bottle of STA-BIL..  happy summer Storing, also spray the outside of the motor with wd:40 to keep moisture from humid summer days from rusting and oxidizing the outside of the motor and spray the throttle parts, and throttle plate too to keep those free during storage too. 5-10 minutes of work saves a heck of a lot of aggravation next season when all you want to do is fish!

My Jiffy 30 gets treated same as Mainedukblaster's auger, except that I use Opti-2 synthetic oil at 100:1.  Basically the same stuff.  Never had a problem at the start of the following winter, and usually it starts on the second or third pull.  Treat it right and it'll keep on working for years.

Dump the tank and run the auger dry. It works every time.

Stabilizer it is. I am glad I asked as i did not think of spraying the linkage etc. I want to keep this auger for a while!! It was hard enough to sneak it in the garage and act like I had it for years! I used one of the wife's tricks against her!
