Fish Decoys
« on: Dec 19, 2003, 01:58 PM »
Just won two ice fishing decoys on ebay and expect them in just in time for ice. I don't beleive Massachusetts is a state which allows spearing. I think they are Wis. Mich. ND. etc. I think there are 6 in all that allow decoys for spear fishing. I do not attend to use these decoys to spear pike or muskie only rather to attract baitfish or perch to the general area in hopes either the pike will come in for a closer look @ the baitfish or the decoy itself. Does anyone out there use decoys for attracting pike or muskie? I feel I will be @ an advantage this year by using them.

if you just want some decoys, take some rapala husky jerks (6inchers) and take the trebles off.AWESOME man do they suspend  and move around nice--secure well with an 18-24 inch 30lbs test leader if you want to keep them.grumpy  >:( :'(

hey moe, I thought of using some baits I had but man these decoys are the real deal. They're big 8 " and havea great profile & colors. Check out ebay under fishing decoys, tons of them on the net. I hope somone reads this who has had experience using them.

I bought some fish decoys, but am having trouble finding a call. Want to work on my fish comeback call and hail call. What sort of shape do you put your decoys in? also, do you leave a space in the midle near you shack for the fish to feed in? I never thought goose hunting experience would carry over into ice fishing, but here we are. ;D
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

I've actually never used them before, thus my post. I don't plan on working them all that much, just every once and awhile to attract fish in. I may even let them sit in the water doing nothing. Fish are curious and hope they will come in to examine, and go after the live bait I have waiting for them. I beleive the decoys will swim in a circle like an airplane jig?

Mr Seaguar; You put the decoys in in seats in rows like they are in a "School", then while you make a noise like a fish you watch them through a "quack" in the ice. You silly duck. ;D

mr.seaguar--to perfect your fish call, i would recommend daily practice ;D by gargling one gallon of lukewarm saltwater and gradually increasing until you can gargle a 5 gallon pail. by then i should be able to hear your call from here.
