« on: Dec 27, 2005, 08:08 PM »
just bought a minnow trap today,I was wondering what to use for bait inside it? I put some dry dog food in it,I'll check it in the morning, hopefully some free shiners...

Dry dog food... I put it in a Tupperware type container with some small holes drilled in it. I recently heard that one of my wife's stockings would be a good containers too. The minnow have a harder time getting to it and gorging themselves on it.

Oatmeal in an old pair of nylons work good. So do Cheetos. :cookoo:

saltine crackers/bread crumbs
I also have a crayfish trap that I put hot dogs or a piece of hamburger in a onion sack.

I poke a couple holes in a can of cat food and put the can in my traps.  I have good success with this method evrytime I do it.  Just my 2 cents.

Bait with dried up bread, dog food, crackers, etc.  Then, cut up an onion and put it in there too...I never thought it would work when I heard of it but it does.  Let me know how it works for you.
Thanks, Dad, for taking the time to show me how to fish!!

I have used just about everything and have come to the conclusion that shiners might eat dog doodie,I have thrown ground up old hot dogs, corn, cheese,  dead shiners or chubs, break em up, throw em in, wish they all ate like that.

I use pizza dough from the super market and put it in my wifes stocking hanging in the middle of the trap, also I have found that green glow sticks work good to.

I save the old wd-40 cans from work, ones that either run out of steam or get the nozzle broke off(by accident LOL). Be careful of the ones with broken nozzles, as you have to release the pressure........someho w
Anyways poke holes in can and put in trap, works very consistently!
