Have any of you ever gotten a white perch/bass through the ice? I catch them all the time in the summer but have never gotten any icefishing.
Theres only 3 seasons..open water, hunting and icefishing!

Back some 10-12 years ago I fished a few times on Greenwood lake which is half in NJ and half in NY. 10-15 guys in a circle about 30 feet across and everyone was pulling double headres one after the next and filling buckets. Most about a half pound, with the rare 2 pounder in the mix. The schools must have been huge when we hit them. The lake is loaded with them. Most of the time you could not find them.

I have caught a handful in the NYC reservoirs on tip-ups. I also caught a bunch of them one day in Lake Champlain. They are good eating as hunters08 mentioned when caught through the ice. I would like to go for them again.

That depends on your taste. they are more of a oily meat like striped bass so they are a bit fishy and if not taken through the ice they can be quite mushy. So I would say no not good as yellow but others would say different.

white perch arent bad tasting if iced right away in warmer months or threw the ice, it helps if you slit there throat and bleed them out i find it makes them taste better. if your lucky enough to get into some big ones they can put up a nice fight
heres my woman with one

As you can see in the pic above they are not small fish. They run about the same sizes as yellow perch and yes they might be real tasty smoked.

Last year I was getting tons of white perch thru the ice on Webster Lake in NH. :D (See my avatar to the left.) They were mighty good eatin'.....filletted, floured and fried in butter.....succulent. This year I can't seem to find them. All I'm finding are tiny 4" yellow perch. WHERE DID ALL THE WHITE PERCH GO? >:(

I've found on Oneida Lake in NY, that the White Perch populations seem to be very cyclical - banner year followed the next year by next to nothing.  Not sure why.

They can be lightly colored, almost albino, especially in winter.
