Well my freind, a lot of lakes in alaska have an landlocked version of king salmon but they aint what I think you are talking about. Kings in Alaska run early in the summer and are all dead by the time the ice hits and the saltwater inlets in the southcentral and southeast, even southwest never freeze far enough out or solid enough to fish them like that. Now, as for big silver salmon, sometimes, jsut sometimes, lakes and rivers will freeze while they are still running and you can get them through the ice. The one year University lake froze over in Anchorage, all of us were landing 10-14 pound sea run silvers through the ice since they run up chester creek and through university lake. I know when Kenai lake freezes, they get silvers through the ice and even the Tannana some years. Silvers fight better than kings anyway.
