sex of a pike?

 I know it will sound stupid, but how do you tell the sex of a pike?
 
 everybody say's to release the female's!

Generally speaking the larger pike say over 40" and over 20 pounds will be female. They are usually thicker bodied and hungrier. If you catch one in early spring or late winter just before the spawn you can squeeze them near the anus and if eggs come out you know it's female!

typically the male are more streamlined and dont get much over 35 inch and the females have a bulged stomach that hangs down more, starting right under the gills.      blake

female fish are always heavier and larger than males.  The males are the little cigars.
