frabill 6065 venture
« on: Jan 29, 2007, 03:47 PM »
Hi Guys, anyone here have the Frabill 6065 Venture?
I have had mine for a couple of years and really like it. It's tall enough that you can stand up in it, fits in the back of my Blazer no problem.

The only thing I dont like is that the underside has no place for your stuff. The bottom is ribbed for easier pulling, but my bucket keeps falling off.

Anyone else have the same problem and come up with a solution?

I take a couple milk crates and put bungee cords to hold them down and just set your buckets and other goodies in them.

How do you guys anchor them?
Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day.  But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

what about anchoring them to the ice?  What do you guys use to hold them down when they're set up on the ice so the wind doesn't take them for a ride.

Usually my fat butt holds it down just nice.

To anchor mine, after I have it set up with the holes drilled for the inside, I drill one hole on either side, use a big stick or spike or whatever that's tied to a clothesline, drop the stick down, pull tight under the hole and tie off on the sides.  Just be careful when getting out you don't step in the hole.  I'll usually drill about 1 foot behind the door so I don't get a twisted ankle.  When you're ready to tear down, just push the rope down, use your scooper to turn the stick/spike vertical and away you go.   If you're using a stick from the woods, it won't matter if it breaks in the hole as long as you get your rope back.  -knock on wood- it's worked for me so far.

That's what I did today.  Had a piece of pvc and a rope in the car.   Just tied the rope to the sled and the pipe, and dropped the pipe down the hole.   Worked great.  I just anchored it on the wind side, and it never moved.  I'm going to get a few more so I can do all 4 corners if need be.

That is a great shanty but I had the same problem.  So I went to the store to check on a sled that I can put everything in, but the nice sleds are expensive!  Then I saw the Frabil Ranger Triplex.  Yup bought it.  I still have the venture for when many people come out with me, but you can't beat the Triplex for hauling; it is built on a sled.  Not the cheapest way to go, but...   If you're thinking of upgrading...
