the best ice seat/ heater/ grill ever !!!
« on: Feb 17, 2007, 03:42 PM »
hey all im new here but i thought i would try to post a few pics of a new device we are using in canada. it is a metal pail as you can see, has holes in the bottom to allow air into the pail, a rack on the bottom for a small fuel cannister, and a rack on top to cook some food, also while its cooking your seat is always warm, and there is a small chimney on top- you can run a small length of hose from the chimney up the back of your coat, so you get a warm seat, warm food, and warm jacket, tough to beat when you dont have a shack. you hunters should take a look too post some comments guys, i may make up a bunch of these too sell if the pricing works out well.

i had an idea similar to this one years ago but its getting harder and harder to find clean metal pails

as for the camo i think it adds a little bit to the insulation factor...

i may try to build one this week... i have something from an old pressure cooker that looks very similar to whats on top of the burner

I had the chance to try one of these a couple years ago - a demo drive if you will. I wasn't impressed....

The issue I had with it was the fuel - it takes a long time to cook anything, and I was constantly running out
- empty cans.

I sent it back.

the biggest problem i see with the above design is that there are too many intake vent holes....

i am building one right now and there wont be as many holes or as big intake holes

yes i agree with reducing the intake holes, i may try and make a sliding door type vent instead, also plan on adding 1 or 2 layers of fleece inside the fabric wrap to increase insulation, and raise the upper rack so that its not so close to the flame, create more of an oven than a fryer in there,

i am in lethbridge alberta, havnt had enough interest to start mass producing yet, but i have started sourcing pails, hopefully something a bit taller than normal, anyone have any suggestions for the seat ? cant be too insulated or it will stay cold, but needs comfort.

i looked at more sites and found out a couple of things...

the camo pack is just that, it has no insulating factor

when in use, put a thick elastic(rubber band) around the fuel can to hold in place

by eliminating the second row of vent holes you can reduce the air intake(but IMO, still needs to be fewer holes)

the seat is not actually meant to get warm thus the tubing that goes up your coat

and i agree with raising the burner.. thats what i am doing..

i will try and post a pic or two if i ever get it finished this weekend (fishing comes first..lol)
