Clam Ice Anchor Kit...Advice
« on: Dec 03, 2006, 09:08 PM »
Looking for some advice on the clam ice anchor kits, I just bought a fishtrap guide along with this kit, I was wondering for those who use them what is the best method of installing these on the guide...where is the best spot

for those who have not seen them (ignore the bait pucks)

Just bought a fish trap guide.  What do you need the anchors for? Ive never fished in one.

The anchors are a quick on to anchor down on windy days, you jist screw them on somewhere then when your on the ice you just clip them on, I just have no idea where to mount them?

Do you screw them into the ice with your hands?

Your best bet is to put a couple eye bolts on the back of your shack. then just screw them in and put a leash from the anchor to the eye bolt.

Exactly, that is how these were designed, but when looking at the back of the clam I cant tell where to put it, It look slike I will have to drill thru fabric and I dont really want to, the only other option is going thru the sled?

Iwas reading another posting and the advice is to remove the rope from the front of the sled.  Install two eye bolts and nuts into the existing holes and tighten.  Get two swivel-eye bolt snaps and tie your rope to them.  The quick snaps will allow you enough room to attach the anchors straps to the eyebolt.  The question I have is,how do you screw the anchors into the ice?

I emailed Clam last night and heard back today...pretty quick I thought

They suggest drilling holes in the sled portion at the back of the Shanty. Then to bolt the anchors in.

I drilled my sled and got some large plastic washers (about 2
" across)with a small hole in them. I took about a 3' piece of nylon rope and put it through the hole in the sled and the washer and then tied a knot on the outside of the washer and one on the outside of the sled. I pull the ropes inside when not anchoring the sled and they are out of the way. Works well and there isn't anything sticking on the outside of the sled to catch on things.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.
