« on: Jan 13, 2007, 05:24 PM »
7 weeks ago I decided to raise wax worms ($2.50/dozen here)

was a harvest day
I have tons of them now. ;D ;D ;D
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I just wasted.

Did you buy the waxworm breeding kit? I always wondered how they worked, I get 1,000 waxies for 22.00 at Vados bait

There are ways to do it without a kit.  Just do a search on google for raising wax worms and you will find the info you need.  I got mine going in a container that pastries came in with crumpled wax paper and a bedding made of bran and honey.  My waxies are now at the moth stage but I havn't checked for eggs yet.

I am keeping them in the boiler room . ( temperature is higher then in the rest of the home)
Waxies food:
I box of honey cereal , 7 tablespoons of honey and 7 tablespoons of glycerin and 3-ln tablespoons of water. Moisten the cereal with the liquid mixture to mold a ball that crumbles easily.
I've spent most of my life fishing, the rest I just wasted.

Check in your local supermarket by the first aid stuff.  You might need to check the pharmacy but you do not need a perscription.

Yes to both questions.  The bottle is usually about 4 ounces.

ok so when the moths start to turn into the max worms or however it works how do you open the container to get the wax worms out without the other moths flying away?

The moths laying eggs. By the time the worms shows up the moths will be dead (just leave them in the
container-worms will eat them)
