Introduction - Hi from Chester County

Morning All.

Just joined the forum this morning. I won't bore you too much but I just got into ice fishing a couple years ago. Prior to that my experience with fishing has been fly fishing for trout, and more recently pan fishing from my kayak. Couple of years ago I went ice fishing with a couple of friends. I had bought a cheap rod, used an old trout reel, and a Garmin Striker 4 from my kayak. It worked. Caught some fish, had a lot of fun and decided this year to invest in some decent gear. Got a Vexliar FLX20, some warmer clothes, and a better rod. Hope to learn from some of you here about fishing hard water. Looking forward to a new hobby and challenge. Take care.

I'm definitely hoping for a long, cold winter. I've been archery hunting all season, so I am ready to make the transition to something new for the season. I got some gear coming today and after that I think I am ready.

yep, that's how a lot of us got started. Re using soft water gear for a year or 2 and then investing in some better ice gear. Just so ya know... it only gets more expensive from here on out  ;D

Don't get too worried about gear, you'll learn what you need and what you don't. Over the course of 5 or 10 years I have acquired all I need, and all of it was on sale. Don't rush into it.

Mostly I just got a dedicated flasher, so my wife could use my Garmin Striker when she comes with me and we got bibs and ice cleats to be warm and safer when we are out there. Got some jigs and stuff too. Where do you consider your home water since you are so close to me?
