2nd sonar interference?
« on: Feb 06, 2021, 10:50 PM »
Hi,
Newer to ice fishing, have used a helix 5, has worked fine. Picked up another for my daughter, fishing them 4-5 feet apart I get interference. I can clean most up with IR, but not totally clean. Would using a different brand be better? Or flasher? Or are they set up too close?
Thank you

Most units of the same brand usually play well together but sometimes not. If you’re fishing that close, drill a hole in the middle of you and use on finder. Depending on your depth you should be able to both see your presentations on the same finder. Save the other for when you’re more spread out.

Do you have them running on the same frequency?  If so change one.

Hi, I have used the chirp IR settings limit interference, haven’t been able to get rid of all of it.

Thank you, I ran mine on 15 degree and kept the other 15-20, with the helix it has 5 IR settings, I am not sure I can adjust by percentage will take a look. Great video though, takes me back to my muskies days.

What's causing the interference? An old tech Vex? If it is, can't do much about it except shut it off. My old X-67 was useless with an old Vex within 100M from me. My helix will filter out most everything, but have to adjust sensitivity and chirp settings.

I'm not talking about IR settings.  That unit has a dual beam transducer that runs 20 degrees/200kz or 60 degrees/83khz.

I will give that a shot, thank you

Get the transducer high up in the hole, so the top is just under the surface. That alone greatly reduces interference, especially with them so close. You use the hole itself to filter anything that isn't coming back straight up.

With the chirp, it has 15 degrees or 21 degrees, then a 15-21 setting. I have tried 1 at 15 and the other set 15-21. I cannot find the 20/60 option

Ok, I was mistaken then about what transducer you have.  Try one on 15 the other on 21.  Frequency wise they are pretty close so the benefit wont be as big but it should still help.  I'm just guessing here but when it's on 15-21 it's probably broadcasting on both frequencies simultaneously or maybe sweeping between the two.
