Always think about heading north for a day or 2 but never do... I dont know enough about those lake to go all in...

You'll have great ice. At Eagle River, WI there's a good 10" there most places. May have a bit more snow but still should not be a slush fest. Good Luck!

My buddy went up for 3 days after Xmas. I think they thought there would be thick ice everywhere and were shocked how thin it was on lots of lakes. They didn't do any research really before they went.

Not the UP, but my brother who lives west of Cadillac, told me today they're rescuing Ice Fisherman left and right from the lakes up in that area! Be safe and good luck, spud,spud,spud! Hex

All good advice to be aware! There's always mitigating circumstances. Cadillac is pretty far south of where I've been and it changes significantly south of Hwy 8 in WI. Kind of a crap shoot actually between Hwys 8 and 10. South of 10 it is just plain sketchy. Better know where you're going and what you're doing.

As far as the UP, anything near a big lake might be suspect. Reverse of the summer "cooler near the lake". Get inland a bit and you should be just fine. Once I get fully moved to Three Lakes I will hold an annual MI license. Done LBDN a few times, Portage @ Houghton last year, Gogebic calls plus a few dozen other lakes will be less than an hour from my house. Not that there's nothing good in my backyard. Sometime I just enjoy the adventure.
