Freshest Brookies! (CnC)
« on: Dec 08, 2020, 05:07 PM »
Early ice has been treating us well so far this season. Although we've been smashing the Rainbows, we wanted to switch things up and target only Brook Trout...Since we did that and Brook Trout are so delicious, we figured we should do a catch and cook on the ice too for the episode! Had good success landing some gorgeous Brookies and did a simple catch/clean/cook with them. (Oil/Butter, Salt/pepper seasoning, light flour coating)

The lake we wanted to hit had some sketchy ice and was half frozen (pictured below) but not a very deep lake (at least where we were)! I circled where Sam and I were fishing, you can see why we didn't move around much, took a while spud barring out to where we were. We fished 4-5 FOW on 4" of ice...Don't worry we did the cooking back on the shore ice which was on 0FOW.

The lake ice being in it's condition, made for some cool drone shots and we even got fortunate enough to get a drone shot of a bald eagle watching over our fish! Fun times out on the early ice, hope you guys enjoy!!

Nice!  Brookys eat well.  We used to hike to Jackson Creek and do a catch and eat. It was Divine!
A little 420 and some Hops made it perfect! ;D

We love em! They are our favorite trout species to eat...That sounds awesome, can't go wrong with some food and mood enhancers ;D

Wish you'd dispatched that 1st one before scaling it. Turned off your video after that. I ain't squeamish but no need for treating a fish like that.
Maybe someday I'll think of something clever to write here...but I doubt it.

Neat. Thanks for the video.  It would help a lot of fisheries in Colorado if we ate more brookies.

Definitely optional on the scaling...Only real difference it makes is crisping up the skin really nice.

Another great video! I'll need to try a Brookie, never ate one.

Now another question: How do you guys get out and fish so much??? You're much too young to be retired like Slayer  ;D

Thank you Johnny! You really should, and if you can get some that have a good shrimp diet, you're in for a real treat!!

Haha we love being outside and spend most of our weekends out fishing...I have an awesome boss and work that allows it as well on some days! Retiring and living the Slayer life is my dream one day ;D ;D

Glad you enjoyed Steve! I'll be sure to send you that email tonight, I'm actually going to have some free time after work haha :) Hoping you get some ice soon too...It's looking roughly the same for the "Lower elevation" stuff for us in CO...Lakes at 5K prob won't be good ice for a while!!

That's good to know! We love making these episodes...Nothing better then some fresh fish on the ice ;D Haha well hopefully you enjoy the rest. We haven't been out very long so the older stuff is a little tough to watch :-\

I really appreciate that!! I've been just sitting here drooling thinking about perch catch and cook...Hoping the 5K elevation weather starts cooling down more in the day.
