Hi everyone. My son and I are just getting into ice fishing. This will all be new to use chasing fish on hard water. We love to fish all over, this year we ended up with 3 states of fishing licenses (IA,MN,WI) so we are free to roam 8). Look forward to learning the ins and outs. We are currently starting out with zip equipment. Shopping around for equipment, so if you have anything you might want to part with, just give me a shout ;)

Walleyes4*u & son

Welcome to the best ice fishing site on the net. I stay in Iowa to ice fish most of the time, go from Clear Lake to south of Des Moines. Last year Clear Lake was slow for keeper eyes, but the way things were up there this summer it could be a blast this winter. I'm looking forward to ice fishing again but would really like to get the boat out a few more time to get into some piggy eyes. It's 3 P.M. right now and it's snowing lightly, sure doesn't seem like October 11th. Hope to see ya on the ice!!

crowbait, glad to hear from you. We fish Clear Lake alot during open water, we didn't do so well for 'eyes this year there. Alot of 14.5" 'ers. We had better luck at Prarie du Chein. Plan on doing alot of hard water fishing over there. Brother-in-law has a trailer over there and he knows the honey holes during summer. We will see if they are still honey holes come freeze up. :D

Talking about heaters...We just came back from rainy river and one of the boats in our group had a sun flower type LP heater in their boat. Same type I use for ICE fishing. Thing about these is the noise they make. I know...it's not a big thing but... We stoped at the log cabin bait shop to take a look at what we could buy for a heater in our boat. They had a heater that had a square heating element . Appeared to be ceramic. This heater was very quiet . We ended up not geting one because we didn't have a LP tank with us and would have had to drive into town to get one ..so we made do with out one. I havn't been able to find this heater on line yet. I thought it was made by a company called sunflower. It mounted to the top of a 20 lb tank and there was a model that 1 lb tanks and was made to hang on a fence or limb of a tree for hunters .

Sitting in my shanty the quieter one would be nice.

I have the Mr Buddy heater.  Their catalytic and suppose to be safe from carbon monoxide poisioning in a tent or ice shelter.  Takes 1lb or can rig 20lb tank to it.  Their even a bigger model with a fan for circulation.  Usually 79.95 but Home Depot had them down to $37.95 late last winter.

I also picked up a Mr. Buddy pertable heater last winter at a clearance price. I fished over at Storm lake one evening, with temps in the single digits and it kept me and my ranger solo plenty toasty :)

See you on the frozen pond.......Mike
