If you want to try braid and not invest a lot. Buy a 50yd spool if whichever ice braid you want to try. Fill the spool 3/4 of the way with old mono and then put the braid on. If you like it, after a season or two pull it off, cut the knot and put  it back on the opposite way. You’re getting 2-4 seasons out of a $7-10 spool of line and if you don’t like it that’s all you’re out.

The only braid I have used Suffix 832 ice. I have had no problems with it so far.  I choose it over power pro, because it is much smoother.  I think that less water "sticks" to it because it's smoother.

I use the Suffix 832 ice as i have noticed the same thing. Used non ice dedicated braid the first time i tried (might have been #20 PP so thickness of the line might have also been the problem) and it was a huge hassle/ mess. Went back to try braid this year (smartly downsized to #10) and really enjoyed the results. Performed excellent on all of my rods that i switched it too. Fished exposed with it too when bouncing around holes and didnt have nearly the issues i thought i would have had.
