Normal or Usual Pressure Ridges
« on: Feb 13, 2020, 07:47 AM »
I've seen the topic kicked around a few times here. Usual Pressure Ridges or spots on each lake where it seems year after year one forms. I know on Winnisquam I usually see one running from Boathouse Pt area to the opposite shore around mid February. Just curious what everyone sees as it could make it safer for one another to venture to lakes they are not familiar with

Pressure ridges should/would probably form where there is a convergence of wind and/or water currents.
So, if a body of water has a spring or inlet near where a ridge forms, it probably does the same in the same area every season.
Winds would likely be more of a factor during the freezing/locking-up period since it wouldn't have the same affect on a 6-12 inch base (unless maybe if it's gale to hurricane force winds?)...
