Heck yeah people will pay more. Its supply and demand. If someone needs something right now they will pay more than waiting a few weeks, especially with the way the world is today with instant results and free shipping. I sell stuff ALL the time on ebay, facebook, and craigslist. My family calls me a new and used store. If I can sell it I will. Lots of people don't know what they have so they will sell it for cheap or free and I will pick it up. I've learned if you just hold onto your item for what you value it at someone will eventually pay for it. I know something is only as valuable as what someone is willing to pay, but sometimes people are desperate and will pay what you want for it.
Just as the buyer be aware of prices people are asking. Never pay more than what you think something is worth.

I am a seller that ships between 3-5 orders a week, and I believe eBay is a great platform for me to sell my items.  Yes, between PayPal taking a few %, and eBay taking 10%, the fees are harsh.  At least with this system, you only pay when you sell something.  I also have a web store through Shopify, and I have to pay $29 per month, plus 2.9% on credit card or PayPal purchases.  I could sell nothing and still pay the $29, so at least eBay doesn't charge you unless you want to create an eBay store for a pretty fair rate.  If you do, then your final value fees on your items are of a lower percentage.

I can honestly say I've never had a negative experience that wasn't resolved, as a seller or buyer.  Heck, I even had my account hacked and someone bought a $80 purse and had it shipped to them.  As soon as I called and made a stink about it, they immediately refunded my money.

I'd love to sell on Amazon, but the monthly cost of having a store through them is WAY more expensive than an eBay store.

I have purchased hundreds of items on eBay that are fishing or fly tying related.  I have never had a bad buying experience aside from a seller taking 2-3 days to ship something, which in my opinion should disqualify anyone from selling.  I can say I've never received anything fraudulent, and I'm confident that if I did, I would easily be able to recover my investment.

As far as people paying more than they should, that's on them, not the seller.  People just need to do more research, and they'd avoid the fake/overpriced pitfalls.

Just happen on craigslist here today guy has a clam kenai non insulated with a few mods with scrap wood. Led light strip and a battery. Few other things any ways from on 500. Meanwhile you can buy the same shanty but insulated for 255 on cabelas right now yes 75 shipping but if you ship to store that eliminates the 75 shipping. I messed with him for a while and then had a buddy mess with him he was so mad he was calling me the n word and wanting to physically fight. Long story short he deleted his ad
If you sit around all day and do nothing your a bum, but if you sit in a boat all day or in a shanty and do nothing they call you a fisherman

blakemohr i agree with everything you said except the 2-3 days to ship items part. I almost always take 3 days to ship items. those that do have up to 3 day handling time built into the listing. i like to wait until i have a batch of items to ship. i drive the packages to the post office pre labeled. it is about 10 miles to the PO for me which is a mileage write off. i have a lot going on other than ebay, like ice fishing. I couldnt imagine having to work my life around shipping everyday.

Scammers are pretty easy to spot, theres no way someone with 99-100% feedback is selling fake crap, I get reels usually around 50-75 bucks off based on my local tackle shops pricing.
If and when I do buy off Ebay I stay away from anyone with less than 500 sales. And they better have 90% Positive feedback.

Before I knew what Amazon was I bought my son a GPS from eBay.  I was shocked it came to me in a Amazon box.  The seller took my order and turned around and ordered one on Amazon for me.  He charged me $112 on ebay and they were $99.99 on Amazon.  But I fail to see how he made money after he paid his ebay and paypal commissions.   The whole thing baffled me.

I've ordered stuff on Amazon that has come in Walmart and Costco packaging. I figured they were just using Amazon as another "outlet" for their wares.
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

Great business model if your mark up covers your overhead. But in this case, mark up doesn’t appear to be enough...

All you have to do is go to usps website and click schedule a pick up. Then say how many of each style package (priority, parcel select etc) and they will send someone to pick them up from your door step the next day for free. Prepaid only of course.

He was probably also selling them on amazon and shipped through his amazon account to get the massive shipping discounts.

500 sales and 90% positive feedback means there were 50 people that gave negative feedback in the last 12 months... roughly 1 a week. Thats a lot!

Yes it is a lot. But it is better than buying from someone with only 50-100 sales. Most of the time I buy from people with the 97-99% positive rating.

If I bought from the tackle shop all I’m doing is throwing away 50 bucks.

No doubt, here, I would shy away from anyone with 90% feedback.

I live about 1/10th of a mile from my PO so it isn't an issue to ship every day.  I have "Top Seller" status on eBay, which requires 1 day handling time and free returns.
