My younger son and I joined my buddies Mike and Sue on the northern end of the southern pond of Lake Ashmere today.
The weather was partly sunny, temps around 30, with intermittent breezes.
There was a 2" layer of slushy ice over another 9" of decent ice in most spots.
My son and I arrived around 11:40 AM and joined Mike and Sue in progress.
As my son and I approached, Mike and Sue were chatting with Yukon Cornelius and his buddy Ryan (Nice to meet you guys), who were heading off the Lake after having spent the morning fishing.
Following the departure of Yukon Cornelius and Ryan, Mike, Sue, my son and I set up the bulk of our tip ups and did some jigging.
After a while, we were joined by one of Sue's coworkers and her two smaller children, who joined us for a couple hours or so. .
The fishing was respectable but not great. We all had some flags and action on the jig. Each of us (including the young 'uns) landed a few perch and pickerel. Nothing to write home about, but a pleasant time nonetheless.
Mike Sue and I all brought our cooking gear, so we had a potluck dining affair on the ice featuring everything from hot dogs and hamburgers to roast beef with horseradish, a green salad, ham and potato soup, chestnut soup, shrimp newburgh, homemade red wine, hot cocoa, coffee, and Polish chesecake. (That's not even counting the stuff we brought that we didn't get around to eating, such as beer, fruit and cookies).
Mike left around 3 PM. Sue left about a half hour later.
My son and I stuck it out (albeit without much more in the way of catching fish) till a little before 5 PM.
