Jim we fished a spot last year that holds monster carp. That would be a good place to start. Been wanting to try that also. I have heard chumming the hole is key.

Cool vid kayl! Lee Tauchen renowned WI musky guy goes ice fishing for carp? Who'da thunk? I'm guessing they're right in the Madison area though there's a spot on Okauchee that looks very similar. Monster, giant mega carp in Okauchee. Seen some surprisingly large specimens on Fowler in downtown Ocon too.

Word to the wise for WI folks: Corn is popular and it's very tempting (because it's so effective) to dump an extra can down the hole to chum. In this state that'll catch you a ticket for "littering". Fair warning...
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

I would love to try this! I used to go carp fishing with a  family friend when I little, don’t remember much about the tactics we used but I remember the fish putting up a hell of a fight. Lenz I’m from Worcester area and might know a few places we could go from when he used to take me in the summer

I pretty much only fish for carp throughout the year and they are a lot easier than you think through the ice. You will want a hair rig with a normal carp rig (look on youtube) probably a method feeder since it's cold or just put some corn on a jawjacker and hope you get lucky

I might want to try it. I think hair rig on free spool is the way to go. Prepare some chum in advance and than wait.
A nice video on hair rig (I learned a lot from that guy)

I would never carp fish without a hair rig. I wouldn't free spool it though since it kind of defeats the purpose of a hair rig. Use a 1-3 oz inline weight with a split shot a foot above the weight so when the carp turns his head the the split shot will hit the weight and dig the hook into its lower lip. If you free spool it he will just spit you bait without you knowing. That's probably the easiest way to get then through the ice without English gear. Also make sure you have a very sharp and strong hook. I prefer Korda cranks or bmg r-circle or r-square hooks for carp fishing

Korda brand. My last order took over 4 weeks to arrive. In terms of hooks try gamakatsu carp.(I use them for tying ezstaz egg for salmon as well)

Order carp tackle/ gear from BigCarpTackle.com. they're in Arizona you'll have your stuff within a week. I'm a member of the CAG, Anytime I've ordered from BCT they never took more than a week.
