ice hole safety cover

Anybody use some sort of safety cover when fishing in a portable? I am wondering especially with kids about losing stuff down the hole, worst case scenario falling in. I am especially thinking during a "no bite" period which can last for couple hours sometimes, it'd be nice to not have to constantly worry about someone or something falling in. I know they sell the nice safety covers for wheellhouses but that assumes a frame is in place by the way it looks? Wondering if anyone has a good diy way of handling this "problem"

Why not use the seat cushion used on the 5 gal bucket stools?

Hole covers while fishing.  I worried about my kids back then.  Was gonna cut a few bucket bottom outs.  Never got around to it.  Cuz pulling fish out of the ice hole was far more important.

I also have livescope, so I'd need to have something that allows for the pipe to go through there too....obviously safety but car keys, phones, beer.....too valuable to have that stuff go down the hole.....
