Weekend report
« on: Feb 26, 2019, 08:33 AM »
Got out on winni this weekend. Was a relief to get on the ice and away from the rest of life for a couple days.  Saturday was good. A nice AM bite that included a decent amount of flags from shallow and deep to keep me quite busy from about 7:30 to 9:30. Couple bows iced, high teens. Some strips and a snapped leader.... Couple lakers iced off the traps, Best was a 23”, nothing spectacular. The Cusk lines produced pretty much squat over 2 nights. 2 fish I didn’t bother measuring. All in all though Saturday was a lot of fun with plenty of action to keep me moving around and in-the-game mentally. Shoulder proved well enough to drill holes without major discomfort. Met Altonbayfishinfool, always nice to meet another IS regular.

Sunday was just bad. No AM bite at all for anything. Zero flags. The weather maybe? Got stuck in the snow with the Tacoma almost immediately after having pulled off the “beaten path” to where I wanted to set up. Was warmer with mixed precipitation. Effected my traction. Fished the AM anyway because I was there and there was no helping it, then called it late morning to put all my crap in the truck bed and try to get moving again. Beat up the truck a bit with all the tranny work and high RPMS, and getting stuck and unstuck a couple more times, but THANKFULLY got her moving enough to stay moving, got back on the main way, and got the hell off. Kinda scary/stressful. Made me wonder who do you call or what do you do if I hadn’t been able to get unstuck??... oh well, I got unstuck. Did jig up a single cusk Sunday around 11 AM on a bucktail tipped with sucker. No size. Walked back on from the road to fish shallow for a couple hours in the afternoon, same result - no bite.

Can’t complain though, saved me from a skunk season of being sidelined and the collarbone is def in the mend.

Tightlines all!

A couple years back I learned the hard way that AAA will not help you if your off the "beaten path". It was an expensive lesson.

So who bailed you out of that? Just some local tow company, and what did that run you, if I might ask?

Indeed! Lots of slamming it in and out of reverse and 1st low. I discovered that staying in straight lines was key. If I lost forward momentum to reverse it into my existing tracks, then slam back into it and head and forward. Problem was trying to turn back towards the beaten path.

Yeah a local tow company. $300....and my truck wasn't the same after that, it took a beating too.  Now I'm a lot more careful before I start venturing off like some great explorer lol

Mr. Harry, were those your tire tracks heading to and from the green shack in Alton bay? I bumped to a different spot wednesday but I had been set up next to a green shack, and it looked like whoever drove out there had a rough go of  it

I don’t have a shack. Not sure if there was a green one around where I was. I headed out from the launch and made it about as far as echo. Yeah, had a rough go of it.
