Strikemaster Mora auger rank

Where does the Strikemaster Mora rank in your opinions with hand augers? I owned a cheap eskimo one a few years back and it sucked. I know that Nils is the cats meow. Where is the strikemaster in the spectrum? And on a scale or 1-10 with 10 being the best where would you rank it?

I rank it a 7.blades are sold at gas stations and stay sharp a long time with little maintenance.

I have had my Strikemaster 7" for about 10 years and I like it... just keep the blades sharp and do not let your drunk buddy try using it like his ice chipping gas auger.    Slammed it onto the ice and broke a blade in half!

When the ice starts getting thicker than 8 inches it becomes more of a project to drill holes.

Mora’s work. They just do. Been around a long time and aren’t going anywhere any time soon. Given that most Mora style augers are virtual copies of the StrikeMaster, I’d give it an 8. Like the Dr. said, blades are available almost anywhere and can stay sharp a long time. I can’t fault Eskimo’s “Mora” style augers either. My first auger was an 8” “Mora” Eskimo. Still works just as good as my 8” Lazer 8 years later.

A lot of things factor on to the “best” hand auger. Cost to budget, blade availability/cost, customer service, aftermarket service, build quality, etc.

In my experience, I’d put Eskimo on par with StrikeMaster cut and quality wise. Can’t really go wrong with either, IMO. Having said that, I really enjoy my Lazer. I’ve considered downsizing the 8” on my Milwaukee with a 6” Mora style auger. Between StrikeMaster and Eskimo, it would all come down do which one I could find cheaper.

Got my 6” on sale three years ago for $35. Don’t have another auger to compare it to; but I would rank a 9. It has done everything I need it too with ease up to 12” of ice.

If the Nils is a 10 I'd rank the Mora a 5 and the Lazer an 8

I would rate Lazer hand auger 9, and Mora hand auger 6.

I would rank them Lazer #1 and Mora #2.

Haven't had any of the Eskimos in my hand.

Lazer hand auger was extremely impressive.  Very fast cut with low effort.

Nils have top reputation, but also are reportedly less durable/easy to screw up.  Probably not best for me.

Mora’s work. They just do.

x2

Used one for many, many years.

But I'm not going back.  Fully converted to power augers.

I have used 6" and 8" StrikeMaster Hand augers for years with Mora blades made in Sweden.  If you use the blade guard correctly to protect the blades and keep good sharp blades on them, they cut great.  Buy a 2nd set of blades and swap the dull blades with the sharp set when needed.   Send the dull blades out to get sharpened.
