Eating perch from EGRA Bozeman
« on: Dec 22, 2018, 07:06 PM »
Does anyone eat perch from EGRA? How do they taste? I want to take and eat some but heard it was the old landfill site. Just checking if they are safe to eat.    Thanks

It was an old landfill site more than half a century ago, I would imagine there is some pretty strict testing done on the water given how popular of an area it is all year long.  While I've never kept anything I've caught there, I've heard of plenty of people keeping and eating their catch with no problems.

I suggest that you call the FWP office in Bozeman. If anybody knows, they do.

I heard of some issue with the water in the residential area just east of EGRA and having a hatd time selling homes bc of it. Just north east is a bog dark park built on an old landfill, but o never checked any records to confirm this. But based on the water clarity coupled with the thoughts of any landfill juice, i personally wont keep fish from there but the perch I've caught do seem to be healthy fish. Like most things in life, if you practice moderation i would suspect it to be fine.
It doesn't sound that appealing to most people I talk to, but going out onto a frozen lake and staring into a hole for the day is my favorite thing to do.

I eat them and I haven't grown a third eyeball or anything. Probably less crap in them than a bag of Doritos I'd think.

If you did grow a third eye from eating them I'm sure we see piles of new age yuppies out there  ;D
