A different view of Indian Lake
« on: Mar 11, 2006, 12:59 AM »
Ever notice the spectacular mountain behind you as you are getting on the ice at Indian Lake? Snowy Mt. the highest peak in the Southern Adks. I climbed it to the top Dec.10th about 8 years ago. Here are some pics.

The ice so short, the fish so long to learn.

Yes, everytime I get on the ice at Indian, I love to gaze over at Snowy ;D...sometimes , after a fresh snowfall has fallen, the top of Snowy looks like a Snowy Owl :o, wonder if thats how it got its name....very nice shots, thanks for sharing them.....

That is a great hike.
I hiked it one year and camped on top for the night.
I have got 15 left before I can say I did all 46.
One of my goals to finish before I turn 40.

I climb snowy mountain 5 years ago in May. 70 degrees at the bottom with flowers and leaves coming out. 4 feet of snow on the top. Loved the views.

Snowy's not a highpeak, but it sure as hell should be. It comes in at 3,899ft. thats taller than Couchsachraga Peak which is 3820 ft and that ones a high peak. I just dont get it, but o well. I hiked it a couple of years ago and it sure does get pretty steep towards the top. Its a great hike for anyone whos interested in that kinda thing. Theres a sweet view of snowy right there by that Adirondack Lake!

The Wife and I hiked it last summer and got a real roast when we it the top.  Out of no where, heavy fog rolled in and we missed out on the view!  Bummer!  Great hike though, lots of varied terrain to make it interesting.  The last part up the sort of rock slide area was fun.

Next time I hike it I'm bringing the pole. You cross that creek about 5 times and there were some nice beaver ponds on it.
