Heritage Tip-ups question
« on: Nov 05, 2018, 07:17 AM »
I am looking to pick up 5 Heitage Lakers but should I spend the extra on their stained/varnished ones? My tip-ups are 50 years old (yikes!) and never had a protective coating on them.
I plan to live forever. So far so good!

I would buy the unfinished ones and finish them yourself. that way,  you can stain them whatever color you want to customize them. Take them apart. very easy to do.

I just redid my heritage lakers. Paint was mostly chipped off so I sanded them down and stained them look great again. If I had to buy another set it would be the heritage mini lakers. Saw them at fishing expo last year great size and take up less room

Stand 20 inch tall 30 with the flag up think a set of 5 at the show was gonna run about $115 prob pick a set of them up at this years show. My daughter will need a set this year and looks like Indian hills are out of the picture now

I went with unfinished ones, I put a custom paint job on mine. I had visibility in mind...

Looks good I run two flags orange and black works great when they are far away and when one colors over the other easier to know it’s up

Even the unfinished ones are treated with a waterproofing. I've had my set of six for 20 years, they look as good as when I bought them.

I haven't finished mine either.  The only benefit would be to prevent the wood from swelling.  You can redrill the holes and add better hardware to avoid any swelling issues as well.

Thanks guys. Now I just need to find a sale price on them if that is possible this time of year.
Hoping to get out fishing at least one more time in the kayak before putting it away. Getting stoked for the ice.

I'm ready for ice too.  I've pulled 4 ticks off the dog in the last 2 weeks.  I thought the frost we had would have been the end of the B@ssturds.

In the spring kittery trading has big sale every year, the heritage lakers go quickly. But you can pick up painted for the price of unfinished this time of year.
Definitely worth the time to paint or poly them, last a lot longer.

I took mine apart and treated them with spar urethane as it will hold much better in the water than polyurethane.  I also used nylon washers in between the wood pieces, custom painted them and used a reflective tape on the tops that cathes the sunlight/ flashlight pretty well.  It definatly helps to have something that stands out especially when fishing with snowmobiles and atv's riding around or if you fish in a large group or do some derbys.  Good luck, get a little creative, and most importantly have fun!

Thanksgiving is America’s most-beloved annual holiday. It is dedicated to giving thanks for the annual harvest, which is one of the most ancient traditions.  Thanksgiving is the expression of gratitude, especially to God.  Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

Just got 4 today from dick’s online pickup. They are 20% off but you do have to order them online. I ordered mine last night at 10 PM and they were ready when the store was open today. I do think tonight is the last night for the sale.
