Goin tomorrow
« on: Nov 22, 2018, 08:27 AM »
Happy thanksgiving everyone! I was gonna try to get out today but too much family stuff to do. Anyone out there today? I will be out tomorrow for sure & will post my findings. Good luck and stay warm.

Be safe.

Happy fishing!

Good luck! Keep it safe, don’t go alone and make sure to bring your picks and spud bar. I’d also recommend some sort of PFD if you don’t have a float suit.
I won’t have time off till Monday when it’s raining and “warm”.

My son has been telling me that people have been out for a while now, not me yet. I guess I don't have enough guts to give it a shot this early.  We live in Dover-Foxcroft, smaller waters are covered but I think you could still put a boat on Sebec if you wanted. Good luck and be safe.

Check ice and be careful. I know people have been fishing the north region already. But southern Maine isnt ready yet IMO. Even my small bait pond is still questionable.
Gotta catch 'em all

First of all i hope everyone had a great thanksgiving with overstuffed bellies. Second of all, i do appreciate the words of caution, ive done a lot of stupid things on the ice and learned/paid dearly. That being said, i did not find ice today i was comfortable camping out on but i will search again tomorrow;especially since it looks like what we do have will be gone soon.

Lasty, i never agreed with pfd's for "sketchy" ice fishing. Though there may be (and im sure there is) certain styles that are more suited for ice fishing, pfd's
Tilt you backwards (appropriately) to keep your face farther away from drowning in the water, which would make it much more difficult to follow the standerized procedure to climb out of the water after breaking through.

2 on pfds, if you break through and you do not pop up perfectly through the hole you entered through. Then you are even more disoriented being pressed against the ice with even less control over your movement.

And lastly , just the added limitation to body movement while trying to swim your way out ON TOP OF your super absorbent insulated winter-wear designed to keep you warm outside of the water.

I do appreciate the words of caution but. Certain things are up for debate.

IMO the safest thing is to have someone follow with a rope handy.(heaviest in front of course)

No rush, wife went off and did her thing. I caught fish with my buddies and the ice we found was plenty safe. Now I can say I fished in November through the ice. Good luck this year

Its not so much rushing as it is eagerness. From waiting half a year to do something we love. Happy fishing!
