2 man flip over shelters
« on: Nov 05, 2018, 08:03 PM »
I am looking to upgrade from my one man to a two man flip over shelter.  The one thing that is important to me is that it can fit underneath my tonneau cover on my pickup.. measuring at only 21" inches high that eliminates most flip overs.. Was wondering what models are being used on the ice that slide under your tonneau cover at the end of the day. Please give me any details or models your using that fit the bill.

I got the Eskimo Sierra non insulated for a steal at Dick's last year. Fits in a short bed tacoma along with auger and all my stuff with a cover on. Can't imagine why the thermal one wouldn't work too...

The seats are normally the high point.  Any of the models without integrated seats would probably work.

I was looking at getting one until I found out most of them are too high, 19.5" for the Sierra Eskimo. This should fit in your truck but not in my car. I only have 18" to work with.

Not certain which makes and models will fit but be aware if adding Hyfax runners adding to the height . Good luck with your search.

There is a thread somewhere at this site that advertises a two and three man shanties that has a smaller profile (shallower tub) and less weight than the bigger brands that might be what you are looking for.   I looked but can't find it.  Perhaps someone will chime in.

Are you referring to the ice runner brand possibly?

I have a tonneau cover on my truck and the Clam Yukon fits under the cover.  Put the seats into the tub and you are good to go.  Also, I have the 5.5 ft bed, and it fits into the back with the tailgate closed.

I had the same problem but i noticed my problem after I already bought the 2 man. Luckily I have a trailer and thats what I carry my shelter on. I prefer the trailer because My 2 man is heavy, trailer sits lower. If you dont have a trailer you can usually pick up a used open trailer pretty cheap on craigslist.  I ended up picking up an open 2 place snowmobile trailer for 250.00. It is in good shape and I added a homemade salt shield because it didnt have one. Now I haul my 4 wheeler with a cover on one side and my 2 man on the other side. For a small investment it works great and is easy to get the 2 man on and off with. even if I dont bring my 4 wheeler I still throw it on the trailer for ease of getting it on and off.

shappell fx200 or fx200i will fit
 Travel:  44"W x 60"L x 19"H
http://shappell.com/iceshelters/fxseriesflips.html

you could modify the seat posts to be lower (drill two new holes so it drops down some) and that's where the support bars attach. stock height should be fine tho.

also the shappell bay runner or bay runner two will fit
 48" x 66" x 18.5", Folded.

Shappell DX Series Cabins will fit
47" x 35" x 5", Folded.
58" x 46" x 6", Folded.

I had the same problem with my otter, didn't fit under the cover, had to keep it open. Got a new Silverado last year and now my new cover sits on top of the box sidewall allowing for more space under and otter fits now. So it depends on if the cover is attached on top of the box sidewall or on the side of the box. It could be a couple of inches difference.

frabill aegis, citadel, recruit would all fit - bro series too probably (idk why they say they pack height is 24" on that one)

I don't have a bed cover on my truck and never had a problem. I wouldn't let the cover limit your choice in shelter, worst case just put a cover on the shack.
