Then by that argument you shouldn't need to register a snow dog either since it isn't a recreational VEHICLE but, rather, a tool used for dragging heavy gear. Can't even ride on it like you can a lawn tractor

That’s not even close. A tool to drag heavy gear lol And you do ride on it You sit in the sled ( or stand ) and the tracked unit drags you behind it .that’s how they advertise it, as a recreational vehicle/ utility vehicle. They go like 20 mph . It’s not really hard to understand.  If you can ride on it and it has an engine it’s a motor vehicle in ny state. You can also get a dwi on a riding lawn mower.... why ? Because it’s a motor vehicle

That’s not true at all. Under 49ccs and you don’t need a motorcycle license only a standard motor vehicle license is required.  Over 49cc  you need a motorcycle license, also you need to register and I think inspect it also. And definitely Need to wear a helmet lol it’s ny come on. Why would you need to register a snow blower and lawn mower. They are tools not recreational vehicles .. big difference

The U.S. federal law for mopeds and scooters as well as many otiher contries say basically that if it is less than 50cc and does not exceed 20 mph it is not a motor vehicle. That does not mean its legal everywhere. But thats where the law comes from. It basically will come down to the judge. I think some judge's would love it.

I don’t think that’s true at all. You still have to register a class c moped...... why would you have to register it with motor vehicle if it’s not a motor vehicle? Kinda makes no sense.  You still need a license from dmv to drive a class C moped. Bottom like is no registration = you can get a ticket if your on public property. Not that hard to understand

Except that isn't how it goes. Let's start a list of folks that have been ticketed for driving an unregistered side by side. I have personally been visited numerous times while using a side by side, and not one ticket or even discussion of lack of registration from local sheriffs, state police, or DEC. We can argue forever, but I have yet to meet the authority willing to write that ticket.

Ok well the question was is it legal to use or not.  The answer is no,it’s not legal.  So asking people what they think doesn’t really matter right ?  Will you get a ticket ? Maybe. Depends on the person that stops you. I know I don’t wanna go fishing and run into dec in the parking lot and have to walk out on the ice instead of ride because the dude is having a bad day.

same thing ...it's a yard tool ....you can't register it and it's fine to use it .....
