Gear security measures
« on: Dec 24, 2017, 04:37 PM »
I don't  have a garage since I live in a trailer park, and my large storage unit is seven miles away, it has been rough sleeping nights with my auger, sled, shelter, and propane bottle in the bed of the pickup.  I fixed that problem recently.  I  anchored an "I" bolt to the underside of the tool box, added two sections of 4 foot chain. One chain I added a sheath of irrigation blue hose, the flexible thin rubber kind for running through the auger handle.  The other chain I ran through the 20 gallon propane bottle and through the   1 1/2" hole I  tearfully drillled in my new jet sled. Either drill the security hole or risk a thief getting it I reasoned. I bought three like keyed padlocks and that's how it ended up. I put the tip ups and other small stuff in the cab of the truck, including the eskimo shelter. I covered everything in the bed with canvas to hide from prying eyes and to keep the snow out.  Bunji cord works for the cover and lots of other things.  I think someone with bolt cutters could cut the chain but minor theft is out of the question.   If I don't plan on fishing for a few days I can run my gear over to the storage unit for better security. Cost of the chain was $15, eye bolt $3 padlocks $9 and about an hour's time. Sleeping better, priceless.

Buy a driveway sensor, they are wireless, and anything that breaks the beam will set off the alarm !!

No dogs in the park to set it off but we are over run with CATS. Have to  set the beam 3' high, together with an electric fencer. $32

Sad statement when you can't even trust your neighbors. Can't remember the last time I locked the truck in my drive. Nearest neighbor is a 1/4 mile down.

My Mom (now 87 YO) expressed a concern that one of her friends had a home invasion. One of the tip offs was no vehicle in the garage. Due to bad vision she hasn't driven in, oh, 7 years or so. I said I can fix that. I'll park the Harley in her garage then come inside the house and pop a coupla .45 rounds through the entry door to the outside and just leave the holes. That oughta keep the flies off...  >:D ;)2

As far as your situation goes the dollar store usually has some "luggage alarms" that run on batteries. You secure the alarm, tie the trip line to the item. If you move it much more than 6 inches the thing goes off. Loud enough to wake the dead. I trialed 'em as tipup alarms once but was told if I kept doing it I'd be the dead one. Very loud and annoying. Motion lights are a good deterrent for ne'er-do-wells as well.
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

Could try and find some ware to attach this ..at 3 x2 x1 inch aprox it can be done then when your gear moves it texts you.. on your phone .. but requires a subscription for the device cost don't know that?? There are other devices out there that are similar just a heads up .. trying to mold in to your flasher or flasher case would be that much better.. or auger housing.. wonder if they'd notice it attached??
