Colder then average November
« on: Oct 27, 2017, 06:32 AM »
KELO , a tv station in Sioux falls sd, is expecting a colder then average November for its viewing area because areas of Canada already have a above average snow pack. This is keeping the air colder there, which will drop down into the Dakotas and Mn.

There are now quite a few sources that are predicting a colder winter this year. I ran into this one yesterday. https://rclutz.wordpress.com/
It has a lot of controversial ideas but this is their summary point about winter 2018.

Summary

In summary the three main predictors that I follow in the fall months most closely, the presence or absence of high latitude blocking, Arctic sea ice extent and Siberian snow cover extent all point towards a more severe winter across the continents of the Northern Hemisphere.

We are due for a good cold winter here in iowa. Strike that, I would take a consistent winter over the crap we've had the past couple years. 10 days of good ice making then 50-60 with lows above freezing and then 2" of rain. I think i went fishing on more that 7" once, even then the water would shake in the holes.......

Wow, you must be way south. I live 30 miles from the Minnesota border and from mid December through the end of February we had 20-22" and I measured 24" once on Triboji.

Well so much for their predictions, have had lots of 40-50* days this November with more on the way in the 10 day forecast. Hopefully December will turn colder.

Many of the lakes in southern WI are sitting around 34F to 36F (not the bigger/deeper lakes), so it would only take a good cold snap to lock many of them up.
