Moosehead this weekend
« on: Feb 20, 2006, 04:37 PM »
Went up to Rockwood for 2 days on our annual trip.  Bad rain on Friday, 6 fish total that day with maybe 10 flags, wind blew so hard saw my first wind flags on the heritage traps.  Both mine and a buddy had a couple each.   Saturday temps dropped almost 40 degrees and wind picked up.   Almost couldn't stand to be out on the ice with no cover.  Fished for maybe 6 hours 5 flags and 3 fish.   It was the slowest I have seen in 4 years going up there.  But on well beats being at work all day.  Maybe a better trip next year.

lowrider, I fished out of Rockwood.  Where did you fish?  We were on the backside of Kineo Saturday.  (Gotta love the wind and cold temps.)  Had three fish on jigging, one that bent my rod to the butt but lost it after a few minutes.  Only landed one togue jigging.  Caught a nice salmon Sunday to the right of the boat launch.  Biologist visited us both days.  Temps were wicked.....  almost takes the fun out of being on the ice.   :o  Caught a little 3" perch Sunday so I ended up with prizes for the most, smallest and largest fish.  Gave out two of the prizes to others that caught fish.  (Just a fun family thing we do but we all bring nice prizes)  Quite a few fishermen out considering the single digit temperatures.

Went over Kineo, through the golf course (on the snowmobile trail) to the backside.  Should have parked our shacks (portable) closer to the shore like the smart people did!  Sunday we were just to the right of the boatlaunch with about 10 people.  Might have seen you fishing right in front of the camps Sunday.  Hey, there's fish everywhere.  3.5 pound salmon is a darn nice fish!  I'd be proud of that one.  Did you enter the Moosehead tourney?  They sold tickets at Indian Hill Trading Post for $5.  Yep, left our house on Moose River and the weather was beautiful.  That's the way it goes.  Hoppes

We fished right off Baker Brook point.  Had to stay right up against the shore line to break the wind.   I caught a nice togue on Saturday before we left but that was it.   Slow this year as compared to other years I have been there.
