Reading Shakespeare (ugly stik that is)
« on: Nov 05, 2017, 05:33 PM »
I just bought two ugly stick rods and would like to learn more about them  My older 6' rods are great so I have high hopes on the new twins.
I can't seem to get much out of all the numbers.

Ugly Stik GX2 USSP491H 4'9"  1.45M  Action Heavy 8-20 line 01A17CM

Should be perfect for horsing big fish with 1-3 ounce jigs
Thanks in advance.

From what I can get from those numbers is

US - Spinning Rod - 4'9 - 1 piece - Heavy (USSP491H)

8-20 lb test

According to the website, it's rated for 1/4-3/4 oz lures, but AFAIK that's more about loading the blank to cast, not necessarily jigging.

The 01A17CM is most likely a date - run - manufacturing line stamp (Guessing made early 2017)

Hope that helps

You're gettin' after them lakers man! That's a weapon! Thanks for the idea. If it's a little too much flex in the tip consider nipping a little off and replacing the tip top to stiffen things up a bit. Remember you can always take some off but you can't put it back.

You got me thinking now.... Giant Chubbies and Bondys.... Come n git it!
To fish or not to fish? That's a stupid question!

The older mediums I have are great so the heavys should be even better.

All sell for $39.99 apiece at Sportsman's Warehouse.  Seems like a great deal for a pretty good rod. I tried spinning reels on the mediums and was pleased but decided to keep them for through the ice with fancy baitcasters.

I have two of the same rods and they will work fine. There not to soft and have a lot of back bone. I run Diawa LC 27's so I know were I'm at all the time. I also have the lighter weight  Ugly Sticks that I run spinning reels on for lighter tackle or faster drop rate. I use an ice rigger when a the rod is not moving set on the bottom goes off like a tip up. Doesn't set the hook just lets you know a fish in tasting stuff. Most of the time the line gets jigged then the fish hits. The same setup has worked very well for burbout.

Thank you Lord for thinkin bout me. I'm alive and doin fine!!!!!!
