What's it worth? (NOW WITH PICS)
« on: Jan 26, 2006, 01:38 PM »
This is not an official for sale ad.  I know there are rules about this.  But... I am looking to sell a boat.  I just don't know how much to start at.  In 2002 there was a major flood where I am from (Decatur).  Because I work for the schools and have my summers off, I spent a great deal of time helping families get there belongings out of their homes.  I was helping a family who had an old ski boat in the drive.  I asked the man what he would want for the boat.  He said I could have it for helping him save his belongings especially since the boat was probably going to float away.  So a friend of mine helped me pull the boat home.  Our intentions were to restore it and have it for our own use.  We began gutting it last fall.  We stripped everything out of the inside of the boat except for the floor because it was still solid.  We have decided now that neither of us have the time to finish what we started and have decided to try to sell it.  Here is what it is.  I believe it is an early 70's speedboat made by Cobia.  It has a 135 horse Johnson outboard motor with power trim.  The motor, steering, and power trim run awesome.  It also has a nice trailer that needs new tires.  What would you say it is worth as is?  Would it be better to sell as a package or just the motor?  I seriously just need some opinions here.  Thanks!  Ian

Just some new info on this boat finally.  The boat motor is from 1973. The model # is 135ESL73M. I am pretty sure that the boat itself is also a 1973.

I know the motor's an older model but wouldn't even the motor itself be worth that much?
I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

Started the motor last fall.  Put on new spark plugs and a spay of starter fluid and she started right up.  Had the lower unit in a big barrel of water so that she would stay cool.  She ran for a good 10 minutes and never missed a beat.  From then on she started everytime we turned her over that day.
