Bait for Suckers

Has anybody here found a magic bait for catching suckers on rod/reel? There is a local river that has some decent sized suckers but I don’t have traps large enough.

I used to drift worms for trout in a small river and kept catching what I thought were suckers. found out years later that they were fall fish and highly prized as pike bait
