I heard Ontario have quite some goby from the reports of several years ago. Are there still plenty of them these days? Do you know any places around east Ontario where I can ice fishing goby? Thanks for your info.

Ok I'll bite you...you want to fish Gobies? Are you after them to eat or just for fun, I can't believe I even asked that...I don't know anybody that's ever targeted gobies. There's still a ton of them on the St.Lawrence River.

Just for fun, actually. So to add a new species on my ice fishing sheet. :D It's forbidden to carry live goby or use them as bait, but didn't limit catching them. Probably just catch several and kill those invaders :)

For the St.Lawrence River, it's kind of too wide area. I only know they like stony and sandy bottoms, like to feed insects and fish eggs. Other than that, I know little about them. Do they like current or quiet waters? Do they live deep or shallow? Do they feed at day or night? If you know any of their habits or places that can catch them, can you give some hints. Thanks.

one summer while staying at a cottage on Quinte, my kids would fill buckets full of Gobies fishing from the dock, they had the time of their lives.  A small hook with a bit of worm was the ticket.  I think you can catch them anywhere near shore on Lake Ontario.

If you fish the Trent River you can quite often find them in the canal areas on the down side. I myself have not seen a goby over 4 inches.
May your tip-up spool while your flag raises with hopes of landing the big one.

They can be found on both sandy & rocky bottoms in the summer as well as deep or shallow. Many times my young lad has caught them off my parents dock with small pieces of gulp.
I've seen some pretty big ones. I have no idea about where they go or if they bite in the winter.

Thanks for the info. Seems Lake Ontario is the main source of those little fishes. I will see if I'm lucky to catch some in St-Lawrence river.
