I live in New Gloucester, about 20 minutes away and we got about 40" of snow in the last 8 days.  I don't think vehicles will be driving on any ice unless it's been plowed.  Also, a truck went through at the boat launch a couple weeks ago

I was just wondering cause we got 20 inches down here in the berkshires and I'm still driving my truck out on the lake......so it was just a question. Where is my best bet for pike in that area since I can't drive to the other end of sabbatus I heard it's not worth fishing unless you go towards the north end. Im just looking for something with decently easy access not looking for know ones exact spots. Thank guys

There could be trails or plowed roads by the time you get up . It's Worth a try . Pike can be caught all over that lake .   5 storms in 9 days if you count tomorrows . that ad up to 40 inches give or take .

HiYa Folks,

Any updates on the snow conditions. I am guessing 30+ inches. Debating on cancelling the big trip. It is tough to dig through 3 feet of snow to drill 50 holes. We have a big crew and we love Sabattus. We are a caught and release group and just fish for the enjoyingment of it.

Thanks again for the info
Have fun
Tom

This weather is a bummer for the free fishing weekend for all of you outside of Maine.

I can't imagine moving around out there unless someone's plowing. ???

Pretty slow after the derby last Saturday in the snow. May want to hit another lake. Second annual take a newbie fishing was disappointing fish wise.

Mind boggling how many people like Sabattus.  There are so many other Pike lakes that are way better.  I can't stand that place.  Always a circus and that's not how I like to fish.

it's because I want to to catch a few pike rather then just one for the day.  If you don't mind sharing on what other lakes you know of that are as good please share. You can pm if you don't want to give away spots.

Hi Folks

Thanks for the feedback.

Any updates on the snow/ice conditions?

I know Sabattus may be fished out from the 2 derby's but it is a nice centralized location for us :) Plus we always have good luck :)

Thanks again for the help
Tom

I think this has gone from some folks who are looking for any info on traveling up to fish - to guys who hate sabattus and think they know all the good spots! Can we stick to the question at hand? If there is anyone out there that has been on the pond this week it would be appreciated by most to know what the snow pack looks like - if there is a lot of slush - and how the pond did after all the snow fall. It is free fishing weekend in Maine and some people have been planning trips with friends and family that have to travel a ways to get here..not to mention will be staying in our local hotels, eating at the restaurants, buying bait from local dealers - you get the point. Nothing makes me more frustrated then people who troll this site just to make stupid comments like "got to minn. I hear its better there" get a grip on things and find a hobby!

I would bet that any body of water in the Western or Central Maine area has bout 2 feet of snow on it although I have been working this week and not fishing unfortunately.  2 feet of snow on the ice means potential for a lot of slush.  I am guessing not many folks have been out in the last couple days with all the snow.  The lakes I drive by every day that normally have folks on them have been empty.  PM sent on other local spots to catch pike.

Any lake, pond in the lower half of Maine is just plain going to be a no go deal because of the huge amount of snow and slush.

Hi Brothers of the Angle

Thank you again for the advice. I made an executive decision to cancel our big trip. To much snow. Plus we have no snow machines and no 4 wheeler. We hoof it onto the pond.

It is supposed to be a gorgeous weekend. I wish everyone good luck where ever you end up. Have fun and stay safe :)

That's a wise decision. I know that there is at least 30+ inches of snow on the lakes from Southern Maine to Central Maine. No matter how you look at it, with the rising temps this week, that = SLUSH. ???
Plan your trip for next month, March is an enjoyable time with the milder temps.

Don't cancel the trip, change the activity. Skiing is as good as it gets. Deep snow and warm temps make for perfect snowshoeing and winter camping conditions. Ice fishing isn't the only way to enjoy our winters.

Hey Folks

Well, talk about a backlash for canceling LOL. A couple of my buddies are packed and still going :) I love it!! Last year we fished that cold weekend with -22 windchill. They can brave the 40inches of snow LOL

They live in So. Berwick and do not have to travel the 3 hours to get there.

Ok.. Big time slush is problem one. Required gear are snow shoes and ??????? We will take all recommendations :)

Any other updates on pond conditions?

Thanks again and have fun
Tom

.   Wrap your traps in fun noodles so they can float in the pool you just dug.

Fished it this morning with the sleds...wasn't as bad as people thought it was...Very little slush caught some great fish..Saw a few mass plates in the parking lot and people pulling their jet sleds...Tough going out a few hundred yards. Also saw a few pop up shantys little hot for that.
