It has been kind of a bummer looking at MODIS every day just to see cloud cover.  I've been keeping an eye on GLSEA (https://coastwatch.glerl.noaa.gov/glsea/cur/glsea_cur.png), which isn't super helpful either, but things are trending in the right direction.  Over the last week, the entire Great Lakes have gained just about 9% more ice coverage and the surface water temps around Keweenaw/Huron have dropped quite a bit.  If you zoom way in, it kind of looks like GLSEA is saying there's ice on Huron Bay, but to what extent and thickness is still anyone's guess.

Don't know about Huron Bay, but was down in Baraga today and there's only a bit of skim over in L'Anse in and around the river mouth.  Water doesn't even look "heavy" yet.

The few Modis images that show Huron Bay show open water off the mouths of the Slate and Ravine rivers. We took a ride out there on the 1st and that is what we saw with our eyes as well. The ice ended right near the A Frame last week.

A frame ice is about 6 inches.  ;D  Not much ice past there.  Park was all open water.

Just drove through L'anse today. The head of the bay is covered with ice.  Some smooth, some broken up ice that has fused together.  Don't know how thick it is yet, but it is a start.  Someone walked out about 30 feet onto the ice, maybe farther, but I could only see that far with the blowing snow.  Warm weather coming so hopefully the ice stays.

Heavy winds coming sunday, it'll take a miracle if it stays in place.

My wife and I were out from the A Frame last Saturday. There was about 10" of ice with some snow/slush on top. We could see at least 8 tents, out from the park I believe, much further down the bay. I don't know what the ice conditions were like anywhere else out there though.
